A little bit about me
My name is Sue Risdon and I have been trading as Sewing Sue since 2001 after completing four years of City and Guilds training in Soft Furnishings.
Based in the village of Hemyock I make and supply soft furnishings that will last for many years to come. My hand made bespoke curtains do not follow fashion trends – they are made to suit your home and your own personal style and will hang in your home for many years to come. I like to spend time with you, the client, discussing your likes and dislikes (sometimes it is easier to say what you don’t like rather than what you do) I will then produce a quotation.
I will also give my honest opinion as the option which is best suited to your requirements; I think this is especially important when you have multiple windows to furnish.
Sustainable Fabric Practices
Controlling waste is important to me.
If clients do not wish to have the waste fabric for their own use, I will pass them on to craft makers or give to scrap stores.
Sustainability is also important; suppliers are producing fabrics that contain up to 75% recycled material.
Quality & Long-Lasting Materials
It is also important to me to know and feel confident with the products I use; I therefore use quality products that I know will give good result. A nice quality lining is so important and aids the hang and drape of curtains.
I use a Roman blind track with a 1:4 gear rations which, I believe, prevents overwinding and have all the required child safety components fitted.

I have accounts with many fabric suppliers (Prestigious Textiles, ILiv, Fibre Naturelle are a few) but if you have already chosen your fabric, I am happy to make that up for you.
To be able to offer my experience and knowledge to as many people as possible I can supply made to measure curtains. These are usually lined only pencil pleat or eyelet curtains although other styles are available.
Whether you choose handmade bespoke, made to measure or contract (Fire Retardant) soft furnishings I will listen and guide you through the process of choosing fabrics and the style that is best suited to your own personal situation.
